Ever since the game's release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, many have been wondering when the alleged port of The Outer Worlds would finally hit the Nintendo Switch, with Obsidian promising the handheld adaptation of the game would be coming soon after the title's 2019 release. Fans now know the title will be coming next week on June 5, with Switch players growing increasingly excited to play Obsidian's intergalactic RPG adventure for the first time.

It seems eager players now also have more information on what to expect from the highly-anticipated port, with new details citing the game's frame rate and resolution. According to these reports, the game will run at 720p while in handheld mode, which is fairly common for Nintendo Switch ports, while it will boast 1080p visuals when in docked mode.

As for the frame rate, the game will run at 30fps, which is once again a fairly baseline standard for most Switch titles. Overall, it appears to be a fairly competent port of The Outer Worlds, especially when considering that the title is a relatively recent release. According to Obsidian production director Eric DeMilt, the team was "very happy" with the way the re-release turned out, claiming that "porting a game with thousands of assets designed to be loaded and displayed on current-gen PCs and consoles with the power to display in 4k made streaming and visual fidelity a challenge on a handheld."

As for how other ports have held up on the Nintendo Switch, its safe to say that the console, while obviously not replicating perfect versions of some of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's biggest games, has done a fairly strong job. The Witcher 3 was a popular example of one of the Switch's most requested ports that made the leap successfully, and while many have said that there are occasional issues with visual quality, playing a game as vast as Geralt's third adventure while on the go is impressive enough in its own right. Alongside that, the likes of Doom, XCOM 2, and even Skyrim have made their way to the Switch, with each having a fair amount of success.

Hopefully, The Outer Worlds will continue the trend of fun Switch ports that allow players to enjoy some of the generation's biggest games while on the go. Not only is Obsidian's sci-fi RPG a great title in its own right, but it's definitely a game that players could sink a lot of time into during their commute to work.

The Outer Worlds is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch port coming on June 5.
