The Outer Worlds PC Requirements Revealed

With The Outer Worlds just over a week away, PC users may be wondering whether their computer will be able to run Obsidian’s newest galactic adventure. Luckily, the RPG’s PC specifications have just been released online, and unlike many other triple-A games this year, it looks to be an accessible release that will run fairly well on most modern computers.

Overall, The Outer Worlds appears to run fairly efficiently, the recommended specs featuring a moderate 40GB of free hard drive space and a common 8GB of RAM. The recommended GPU - a GeoForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 470 - also falls in line with most middle range gaming rigs, highlighting once more that it will aim to be as accessible as possible to players with varying computing power.

Compared to other large-scale triple-A titles we’ve seen recently, it’s refreshing to see The Outer Worlds look to avoid absolute frying players’ motherboards, especially when considering the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 calls for a whopping 150GB of hard drive space and 12GB of RAM to run. The game will no doubt be a fairly stress-free experience for PC players who won’t have to worry too much about the quality of their computer to run the game. The full specs are as follows:

Of course, The Outer Worlds will also be coming to consoles, and while you may think that specification arguments would remain exclusive to PC, the game’s visual fidelity has been causing a stir over there also. Obsidian came out last week to report that the Xbox One X version of the game would be better enhanced than that of the PS4 Pro, causing some fans to argue over the decision. Supposedly the game will feature 4K textures for Xbox One and PC, while the PS4 Pro will instead receive upsamples to 4K from 1440p.

This decision does make a fair amount of sense, however, with Microsoft purchasing Obsidian last year. The studio would naturally elect to make the game run and play best on the Xbox One, seen as it’s the console that has supported Obsidian the most throughout its development. The studio did state, however, that the game would still look amazing on PlayStation 4 and that excited fans have nothing to worry about.

The Outer Worlds launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
