Players looking for a more traditional Fallout style experience will likely want to check out Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds. Featuring familiar gameplay from the studio's previous work like Fallout: New Vegas, its latest game manages to add in a number of twists to make the sci-fi RPG experience feel fresh.

In addition to a new engine powering the experience as well as the style and tone that Obsidian is known for, The Outer Worlds also features some unique and outlandish guns called Science weapons. While these may lack in damage output, they make up for it with the ability to manipulate enemies. One of the five science weapons is the Gloop Gun. Here's how to unlock it.

Step 1: Where to Find It

Before doing anything else, players will need to lift the lockdown after arriving at the Groundbreaker. Doing so unlocks space travel which allows movement through the Halcyon system. Lifting the lockdown involves using persuasion, performing tasks, and acquiring a Navkey.

Once acquired, the player's ship Unreliable can be used to fast travel to other worlds. In this case, players should make their way to Monarch.

Step 2: UDL Lab

During the side mission called Errors Unseen, players head to the southwest area of Stellar Bay to a UDL Lab. The task here is to clear the marauders that have taken up residence there. Inside the UDL Lab's main room is a terminal that can be hacked to unlock the gun. Players will need at least to be at least 55 in the hacking attribute to have this option available.

However, for players without a high enough hacking skill, they can instead attempt to answer three security questions. The trick to successfully answering the quiz is to pick the three most over the top corporate responses. In this case:

  • Protect the chairman
  • Berate him relentlessly to defend the Chairman's honor.
  • Arrest your spouse and admit your children to a reeducation program.

The Gloop Gun

Hacking or correctly answering the three questions gives players the next science weapon, the Gloop Gun. This gun relies on the Heavy weapons skill and deals shock damage that weakens enemies. Its more unique characteristic is to fire off a glob of goo over a wide area that causes enemies to temporarily levitate in the air. The higher the player's science skill, the more the enemies are weakened by the shock damage.

With the Gloop Gun in hand, players should seek out the other four science weapons for even more unique experiences. The rest of the set includes the Mind Control Ray, Shrink Ray, Mandibular Rearranger, and the Prismatic Hammer.

The Outer Worlds is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version also in development.
