The original Doom from 1993 is one of the most influential games of all time, basically helping to kick-start the FPS revolution that's still going on today. Part of what keeps the classic monster killing game alive is the fan base, who have sought many ways to breathe new life into it. Because the game is so old now, some have managed to port Doom onto some odd devices like a GoPro Drone. Now, someone has perhaps upped the ante somewhat by getting the id Software title to run inside another game.

Known as Age of Doom, user HELLKNIGHT61 has uploaded a mod for classic Doom which allows fans to play the game inside Age of Empires 2. They've also uploaded a video as well, which shows the mod in action. It contains all the typical assets of the Microsoft strategy game, including the isometric perspectives, but inserts Doom Guy into the world, along with adding monsters, explosions, and even some of the sound effects from the reboots. It essentially takes the fast-action demon slaying game and puts it into a universe that is typically meant for strategic settlement building, trading, and conquering other nations.

On top of that, the modder has said that their add-on features all the best Doom weapons such as the shotgun, double-barreled shotgun and the BFG. Age of Doom comes with a tutorial stage, five episodes, plus a final chapter, so there is plenty to be getting on with for those curious enough to see how these two disparate worlds collide.

While this is not quite the same as what other people have done by showing Doom running on things like an oscilloscope, partly as a community challenge, partly just for fun, it is an amusing add-on which shows one game running inside the other. HELLKNIGHT61 says that this idea was spawned from one he had years ago in which they said they always wanted a Doom experience that could be done in the AoE2 scenario designer, of which they were part of a community dedicated to Age of Empires custom campaigns.

This is also not the first time someone has got the game running inside another. Last year, someone managed to make a mod which enabled Minecraft users to play Doom in the blocky realm. It shows just how much gamers are still fanatical about the 28-year-old influential title. Nearly three decades later, and modders are still finding interesting ways to play the game and keep the Doom spirit alive.
