The Menu closed off the year by making its way onto many critics' lists as one of the most refreshing films in 2022. Now, a newly surfaced deleted scene shows some of its characters revealing parts of the mysterious past of Ralph Fiennes' psychopathic chef.

This comedy horror movie also stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, and John Leguizamo, all part of an elite group of diners who travel to a remote island for an exclusive foodie experience that quickly goes haywire. Although The Menu performed somewhat modestly at the box office, earning $73.5 million on a $30 million budget, it has another shot at banking on its reputation thanks to its addition to HBO Max and Disney Plus this week.

As for the deleted footage, titled “Korean Taco Truck,” the clip comes courtesy of ComingSoon.net's YouTube channel, which uploaded it on the same day The Menu became available for streaming. Throughout the film, Fiennes' prestigious chef Julian Slowik remains an incredibly mystifying character. However, The Menu deleted scene has McTeer's foodie critic Lillian Bloom shed light on how she helped discover the reclusive chef thanks to a review of a Korean taco food truck that sounds just like all the fancy cuisine The Menu sets out to make fun of.

This scene occurs towards the start of the movie when audiences barely have any clue about the specific flaws of every one of The Menu's despicable bunch, albeit some stand out from the get-go. Funnily enough, even The Menu's deleted scenes refrain from showing Fiennes' character to provide further backstory to his motivations. For those who have seen the film, this will feel like an on-brand move for this script.

The Menu's brand of social commentary and the film's entire “eat the rich” message was well received as its satirical elements don’t eclipse its psychological horror vibes, despite having a relatively short runtime of only 106 minutes long. While most of the praise went to the performances by Taylor-Joy and Fiennes, Hong Chau also deserves plenty of credit for her display, especially with her starring in the critically acclaimed emotional ride that is Darren Aronofsky's The Whale.

Overall, Mark Mylod's The Menu became a variety flavor in what was a pretty solid year for the horror genre as a whole, not only in movies but also in TV and horror games.

The Menu is currently available on HBO Max.
