Announced back in May of this year, Bloober Team's upcoming horror game The Medium looks to be one of the horror-focused studio's most terrifying experiences to date. Featuring 4K visuals, eerie monsters, and a soundtrack composed by Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame, the game is set to deliver some chilling scares on the next-generation consoles.

Unfortunately, those looking forward to getting their hands on The Medium this December will have to wait a little longer than expected, with Bloober Team revealing the game has received a short delay. The studio's newest horror title will now release on January 28, 2021, jumping six weeks from its intended release later this holiday season.

Speaking on the move in a statement on Twitter, Bloober Team admitted that the delay was a difficult decision to make, claiming that the "COVID-19 situation in Poland" was the core reason behind postponing the game. Interestingly, it also admitted that the corresponding releases of other games were an inciting reason behind the decision, clearly in reference to Cyberpunk 2077 which iss slated to debut on the same date. Regardless of this setback, the studio was clear that it's still dedicated to making The Medium its most ambitious and fear-inducing release to date.

It seems Bloober Team won't be going radio silent on fans either, promising that there will be future updates about The Medium in the coming weeks. While the delay marks yet another savage blow to the Xbox Series X's early games lineup, it will no doubt result in a more polished game in the long-run.

Bloober Team also has another release coming to both new consoles very soon, with Observer: System Redux slated to arrive on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at launch. The game will offer an enhanced version of Observer with better visuals and load times, as well as a suite of new side-missions to keep returning players invested. The original game was something of a cult-hit with fans, so seeing it returning in 4K will be a worthy launch title for next-generation consoles.

The Medium, on the other hand, will center around Marianne: A medium able to freely move between both the real and spirit worlds. Players will be able to use the character's psychic abilities to solve intricate puzzles and navigate The Medium's creepy world, shifting back and forth using the quick load times of the Xbox Series X. Although its new delay is sure to disappoint fans, its intriguing premise means it'll likely be worth the wait.

The Medium is slated to release on January 28, 2021, for PC and Xbox Series X.
