When The Medium was first revealed, it was pushed as one of the first next-gen Xbox Series X console exclusive games, debuting on Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service earlier this year to mostly positive reviews. But while The Medium has been presented as an Xbox game, it's now making the jump to PlayStation 5, and it won't just be a simple port. As revealed in a new video from Bloober Team, the PS5 version of The Medium will have some big upgrades that may make it the ideal way to experience the game.

All of The Medium's PS5 upgrades center around the DualSense controller, its unique features, and how the developers have leveraged the DualSense controller's capabilities in the game. The new video from Bloober Team explains exactly how The Medium utilizes the DualSense controller, with one example involving the adaptive triggers. In The Medium on PS5, players will feel resistance in the triggers when using Marianne's Spirit Blast ability, which will lessen as players build up the energy necessary to perform the maneuver.

Meanwhile, the DualSense controller's haptic feedback will also play a big role in The Medium's PS5 port. When using Marianne's Spirit Shield, players are bombarded by flying creatures, which they will now feel in the form of rapid tapping throughout the controller. And when Marianne is in The Medium's Spirit World and needs to hide from monsters by holding her breath, players will feel accelerated pulsing thanks to the haptic feedback.

The DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will play a big role in The Medium PS5 port, but the game is taking advantage of the controller in other ways as well. For instance, when players are examining objects in the game world, they can now rotate the objects using the touchpad. They can also use the DualSense controller's motion controls to look around in the first-person segments, though traditional controls for both functions are still available as well.

Meanwhile, the DualSense controller speaker will be used in some disturbing ways, imitating the sounds as players open doors in the game. While that may not sound all that weird on paper, The Medium has skin doors that players have to cut through using a razor blade, so it will definitely add to the game's freaky atmosphere.

And finally, the DualSense controller's lightbar will mimic Marianne's flashlight, blinking when it's low on juice like it does in the game. Overall, it's clear that Bloober Team is putting a lot of effort into making The Medium's PS5 debut special using the DualSense controller, and it will be interesting to see just how much it adds to the experience come launch.

The Medium is out now for PC and Xbox Series X, with the PS5 version coming September 3.
