Bloober Team's Silent Hill-Esque psychological survival horror game, The Medium, dropped earlier this year exclusively on next-gen Xbox devices and PC. Now eight months after its release, The Medium will launch on Sony's PS5 with all its bells and whistles, while also adding nuances that make the PS5 version of The Medium the definitive version of the game.

The DualSense controller is one of the PS5's standout features that are yet to be fully utilized by most new releases. However, game developers to some extent have started to harness the potential of the DualSense controller, which adds an extra layer of immersion to the next-gen gaming experiences. Plenty of third-party games are already adding some DualSense features to the PS5 version of games, and while it certainly isn't perfect, it helps make the PS5 version of these games stand out. The Medium is all set to utilize PS5's added set of features, and both new and existing fans should be excited to try it out on the PS5 later next month.

What the PS5 Version of The Medium Brings to the Table

The Medium's dark, gritty, and sinister post-communism Poland setting is a sight to behold on every platform, and the PS5 version is just the icing on the cake. While fans have to wait to see how well the PS5 handles The Medium's dual-world rendition simultaneously, they can, however, get a glimpse of how it looks and what additional features it boasts for its $40 price tag.

Bloober Team, the studio behind The Medium, recently released a three and half minutes long video detailing all the DualSense features that the PS5 version of The Medium supports. Marianne, the game's protagonist who is also a spirit medium between the two worlds, can use plenty of abilities to traverse the world of The Medium.

The most common of them is the Spirit Blast, which now utilizes the adaptive triggers to create more tension. The more charged is the spirit blast, the lesser resistance players feel on the triggers while using it. The Medium also utilizes the DualSense's haptic feedback effectively with players feeling the soring intensity of a swarm of moths attacking them from every angle.

In The Medium, The Maw is a gigantic ferocious monster that cannot be defeated. Players have to take a stealthy approach and evade it every time it appears. To avoid getting detected by The Maw, Marianne can hold her breathe when in cover, and on PS5 thanks to the haptic feedback, players can know when Marianne is going to run out of breath.

In The Medium, players can often come across objects of interest that they can inspect to find echoes — memories of the past. On the PS5, aside from the analog stick, players can also use the DualSense controller's touchpad to inspect the same. Similarly, players can use the controller's motion controls to examine various clues throughout the game instead of using the analog stick.

The Medium on PS5 also takes advantage of DualSense's in-built speaker and the lightbar. While cutting through grotesque skin-like obstacles along the way, players can hear the sound of the tools they are using through the speaker. Additionally, the DualSense's lightbar replicates Marianne's flashlight, which starts to flicker whenever The Maw is nearby.

These are some of the DualSense features confirmed for the PS5 version of The Medium. While the lack of Game Pass on PS5 means that the PS5 players will have to purchase The Medium to play it, the addition of well-thought out features make The Medium on PS5 its most definitive version yet. The PS5 version should be appealing enough for horror enthusiasts to give it a try.

The Medium launches for PS5 on September 3, 2021.
