Katie Sackhoff, who portrays Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian, has given fans a taste of what’s in store for her character for season 3.

Although she’s only played Bo-Katan on The Mandalorian for a single season, Sackhoff has a long history of playing the fierce Mandalorian warrior. Her past appearances as Bo-Katan have included the animated Star Wars: Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While playing Bo-Katan has brought her back into the public eye, Sackhoff made a name for herself early in her career as Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace in Battlestar Galactica. Her iconic roles in the Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica franchises have made her sci-fi royalty.

In an interview with Empire, Sackhoff discussed how her ten-year history with the character has influenced how she’s portrayed Bo-Katan on screen and her role in making decisions about the character. "One of the things that Jon and I focus on is where she is in the moment, what peppers her experience," Sackhoff said. "Jon and Rick, every single day, defer to me, which is a crazy experience, to have these masters asking me what I feel. I really do know her – her pain is my pain. When she experiences something, I really feel it."

She also spoke about her role doing stunts on The Mandalorian. While she doesn't exclusively perform Bo-Katan's stunts, Sackhoff said she specializes in knee-slides and that whenever fans see Bo-Katan knee-sliding on-screen, they can be sure Sackhoff is the one in the suit. "I've been practicing my knee-slides [in] my mum's kitchen with dish rags since I was five years old," she told Empire. "So when that knee slide comes up, you'll know: that's me." Empire also released a new shot of Bo-Katan from the upcoming season. In it, she sits in what seems to be her spacecraft, suited up and looking focused.

Sackhoff is not the only familiar face returning for The Mandalorian season 3. Alongside her will be Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Emily Swallow as The Armorer, Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto, and Omid Abtahl as Dr. Pershing. Behind the camera, show creator Jon Favreau will be directing several episodes of The Mandalorian season 3, along with Carl Weathers, Rick Famuyiwa, and Bryce Dallas Howard. Favreau has also written all eight episodes for this season, with producer Dave Filoni and staff writer for The Book of Boba Fett Noah Kloor co-writing a few.

Although details about The Mandalorian season 3's plot arcs have been kept behind tight lips, Sackhoff's thoughts on the character combined with the ending of season 2 are more than enough to speculate on. Due to Din Djarin becoming the rightful owner of the Darksaber - giving him claim to the throne of Mandalore - there could be some friction between Bo-Katan and Djarin. Bo-Katan made it clear in season 2 that her goal is to rule Mandalore, as she feels is her right, and if her past is anything to go by, she won't let anyone stand in her way.

The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on March 1st, 2023, on Disney Plus.
