Internet discourse at the end of 2019 was dominated by streaming shows based on existing properties: Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher and the weekly Disney+ Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian. The Witcher and The Mandalorian were big hits with fans and quickly given follow-up seasons, and today cinematographer Baz Idoine confirmed that the second season of The Mandalorian has finished filming.

Idoine posted a photo of a production slate for an episode of the show directed by Dave Filoni on Instagram saying, "That's a wrap on season 2!" The director worked on two episodes of The Mandalorian season one and has a hand in other pieces of Star Wars media including The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Resistance according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

This follows up on similar posts made by cast members like Gina Carano, who uploaded a photo of herself as Rebel Shock Trooper Cara Dune on set to Instagram yesterday. On February 5, 2020, the official Star Wars website announced that The Mandalorian Season Two will premiere in October 2020 based on confirmation from soon-to-be-former Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger during an earnings call.

No doubt one main reason for The Mandalorian's success was its break-out star The Child — or as the Internet has come to affectionately know him, Baby Yoda. It took Disney a few months to jump on its Baby Yoda merchandising opportunities, but that hasn't stopped Star Wars and casual fans alike from latching onto the adorable force-sensitive alien child in a big way.

However, the show has also received acclaim for its high-quality production, video game-esque story elements, and a mix of set design, writing, and cinematography which led many to feel it captured the same appeal as older Star Wars films. Idoine's work certainly contributed to that, as the cinematographer brought experience working on The Bourne Legacy, American Sniper, The Master, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story according to his website.

Not much has been unveiled about what Season Two will offer for The Mandalorian, but fans can certainly expect to see more high-octane bounty hunting action and more cute gif-able Baby Yoda scenes if Disney learned anything from the reactions to Season One. Perhaps it will even add more tiny characters, like the fan-made Baby Jabba the Hutt.

The Mandalorian Season Two will premiere on Disney+ in October 2020.
