In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the titular character has several tricks up his sleeves for navigating the game's levels. Gollum is a very nimble creature, able to leap quite far, scale cliff faces and other rough walls, and squeeze through small spaces that larger creatures would be unable to enter.

Due to the game's pacing, it's entirely possible that players will be halfway through Chapter 2 of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum before they need to use the crouch button again after briefly using it in the tutorial/opening. This guide will cover the basics of how to crouch and crawl, allowing players to navigate otherwise inaccessible parts of the game's levels should they have, understandably, forgotten crouching is even an option.

Players will find that Gollum is pretty good at squeezing into the majority of the game's narrow passageways without any further prompting than steering him towards them. Still, when entering particularly small openings that are close to the ground, players will need to manually crouch and crawl into them.

Since they only needed to do this once during the game's opening act, and there's likely been a fair bit of story between then and the next time crouching is necessary, it's entirely possible for players to forget they can crouch manually.

When faced with an opening, Gollum doesn't enter automatically; players can make him crouch by holding down the right bumper. This allows him to enter smaller openings and hide under certain furniture, such as tables, to hide from enemies. This is important to know when navigating the game world, especially when lighting explosives during Chapter 2 (where forgetting that the crouch button exists can be fatal).

While the game doesn't require Gollum to crouch too often during its opening chapter, and indeed many of the platforming sections, it becomes crucial during stealth sequences, where access to cover under a table or bench can be the difference between success or game over.

It's an easy ability to forget in most other situations, but remembering that crouching is an option is exceptionally important to progressing through certain sections of the game.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is available for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Nintendo Switch version is launching at a later date.
