With the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity demo fully out, one thing that players noticed were locations that were present in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but happened to be completely destroyed and abandoned. In return, seeing the destroyed locations gave modders the idea to recreate and restore the locations to their former glory.

As fans of the series may already know, the events in Age of Calamity take place 100 years before the events in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which would explain why the locations and structures are fully intact. However, because of The Great Calamity event, most of the locations ended up getting ruined and broken down, ultimately leaving them empty, hollow, and destroyed. However, a recent mod for Breath of the Wild allows for those same locations to be resurrected and explored as if they were never affected by The Great Calamity.

A modder by the name of banan039 is currently recreating all demolished structures and implementing them into Breath of the Wild. According to the modder, there is no team behind the project, meaning that it is completely solo and that he has been working on it for months. Given the fact that a decent amount of locations have been destroyed, trying to recreate all of them will take a lot of time, especially when it comes to the details and the overall look the locations have in Age of Calamity (for accuracy reasons).

As far as which places have been currently restored, they are Mabe Village, Sacred Ground Ruins, parts of Hyrule Castle, and more. Those who choose to download the mod will be able to see the locations in their restored forms and essentially appreciate their beauty one way or another. Since Age of Calamity has the same map but not the same open-world aspect as Breath of the Wild, getting up close to the locations and admiring them will be a bit complicated. With the mod however, it's almost like players are in Age of Calamity but with Breath of the Wild mechanics and gameplay elements.

Going forward, it will be interesting to see how the project continues to evolve and which places will receive the restoration treatment. Nonetheless, the current version of the mod allows players to explore a decent number of the locations, so they should definitely expect the list to grow in the future while seeing new unique and original gameplay mods along the way.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
