The Last of Us series has an incredibly talented community, with fans always looking for ways to show their appreciation for Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed series. One common avenue has been cosplay, and one skilled The Last of Us fan has shared a particularly memorable take on Ellie.
Reddit user likeassassin does something a bit different from what has been seen in recent months. While most of the newer Ellie cosplays look at the adult version of the character from The Last of Us 2, likeassassin has drawn inspiration from the original game. Her red t-shirt and its palm tree pattern can easily be seen, as can the character’s backpack. However, the other neat thing about this portrayal of Ellie is that fans can actually see the costume in action.
Instead of a photo of Ellie, Reddit users see the cosplayer running around an abandoned building. When moving down a hallway, she eventually stumbles upon her backpack. After putting it on, likeassassin looks toward the camera before walking forward. Seeing the cosplayer up close in these scenes has led to Redditors saying that she looks just like Ellie. A fair assessment given the cosplayer's facial features and hairstyle, it is easy to see the resemblance, as she does a stellar job of bringing Ellie to life.
In the second half of the footage, Ellie can be seen playing guitar, a great nod to her relationship with Joel. Though the instrument took on a much more prominent role in the sequel, seeing it used by the younger Ellie hints at some of the moments that could have taken place prior to The Last of Us 2. At the end of the video, likeassassin can be seen picking up a Firefly pendent off the floor. A callback to a collectable from the series as well as the faction itself, this scene is a fitting way to bring the video to a close.
The overgrown and abandoned building looks as if it was ripped straight from the game, adding to the tone of the video. On top of this, narration from Ashley Johnson’s Ellie is played in the background, with The Last of Us’ music also heard clearly. With dirt visible on the cosplayer’s clothes, particularly her shoes, it truly does look as if Ellie was pulled straight out of the game. Given the amount of effort that went into the outfit, the video editing, and the location, this cosplayer is deserving of all the praise she has received thus far.
With The Last of Us HBO series on its way, players could be seeing this exact same outfit on their TV screens very soon. With it looking so great on likeassassin, hopefully it will fit Bella Ramsey’s Ellie just as well.
