Naughty Dog has just shared an image from the upcoming TV show adaption of The Last of Us. This news comes alongside all the other announcements on The Last of Us Day which is celebrated every year on September 26, as that signifies the spread of the cordyceps virus in the game’s world.

The Last of Us Day was earlier known as Outbreak Day, but was changed due to its relation to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. This annual event is simply Naughty Dog’s way to celebrate the release and success of The Last of Us franchise, and it gives the developers a way to engage with the game’s community. A Joel statue by Dark Horse, exclusive merch on the PlayStation Gear Store, and a Photo Mode event, that encourages fans to show-off their skills, are all a part of The Last of Us Day this year.

Naughty Dog has just released an exclusive teaser image for the TV show on their official Twitter account. The Tweet says “Look for the light”, the famous line that was a part of the intro of The Last of Us. It features Joel and Ellie walking across a large field, but it does not fully showcase how actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey look in their respective roles. However, fans can still see all the details in their clothing and backpacks. As this image serves only as a teaser, fans can hope that HBO releases more footage in the coming months.

Shooting for The Last of Us TV series began in July 2021, and is currently scheduled to end in June 2022. It was earlier confirmed that the story of this live-adaptation will have some differences from The Last of Us video game, although it will be fair to expect major plot points to be faithfully recreated.

As a part of The Last of Us Day, Naughty Dog had also posted a message on its official website that aims to reassure fans of the Factions game mode from The Last of Us. It states that this multiplayer project is extremely ambitious, and more information will be shared when its ready.

It looks like Naughty Dog has its hands full with this franchise, as it is rumored that a remake of The Last of Us is also in the works. Regardless of whether one is eagerly anticipating the TV show, or is itching to get into a multiplayer match, fans of this series will have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.

The Last of Us on HBO is currently in production.
