A creepy The Last of Us bug turns Ellie into a demon has been making the rounds online. While this The Last of Us bug makes Ellie look scary, it could also be seen as a symbol that foreshadows what’s to come in The Last of Us Part 2, as the events of that game revolve around Ellie's obsession with vengeance.

The Last of Us Part 2 is still relevant and most likely will continue to be, as according to Neil Druckmann the game’s themes were inspired by certain political conflicts. These themes are reflected through Ellie's actions, whose questionable choices reflect on fundamental human struggles, like balancing love and hate, and how those struggles drive humanity. However, a recent bug strips all the humanity away from Ellie, showing her as a creepy black monster instead.

The Last of Us Remake is worth playing again even for veteran players, as Proof-Summer1011 posted an image of a bug from the PS3 version of The Last of Us on Reddit that showcases a side to Ellie that fans may not like. In the image of the glitch, it shows Ellie resembling a demon like something out of The Grudge, complete with blank white eyes. In the first game, it was Ellie’s humanity that brought Joel back from the depths of his own dark path, and his redemption is the thing that brings Ellie back from her own struggles with despair in the sequel, so it is ironic that the bug displays young Ellie in such a horrific way.

The Reddit User pokes fun at the PS3 version of the game by showcasing the image with a caption that sarcastically asks if the PS5 version is truly necessary when the game runs as well as it does with the glitch in mind. It is unclear if the whole game can be played with Ellie looking like this, or if it is just in the section of the game that was showcased in the image, but it may not be the dream The Last of Us cosmetic for Ellie that players envisioned.

Regardless of the glitch, The Last of Us remains an iconic PlayStation exclusive that is renowned by players for its characters and story. Although there are many references to the first game in The Last of Us 2, none acknowledge the weird bugs that can occur like the one pictured above.

The Last of Us Part 1 is available on PS5. A PC version is currently in development.
