Starting this week, a limited series podcast is being released for The Last of Us 2. The eight-episode series will delve into the creation of the games and the stories behind the scenes. Each week's episode will be respectful of the game's release, and won't spoil any of the highly anticipated sequel. The first episode is available today and features guests Neil Druckmann and Anthony Newman.

The podcast was announced last month to the delight of fans everywhere. The podcast is hosted by comedian Christian Spicer, who is best known for his latest stand up special "We're All Going to Die." Spicer will host several guests over the coming weeks and will include interviews with Ashley Johnson who plays Ellie. Johnson tweeted about the experience earlier today describing the interview as "beautiful conversations".

Other guests will include actor Troy Baker (Joel), Jeffrey Pierce (Tommy), Laura Bailey (Abby), Gustavo Santaolalla (the composer), and developers who have been with the game from the beginning. In a teaser for the podcast, the voice of Troy Baker notes that the first game is really Joel's story and the second is really more of Ellie's story, and Spicer is going to get into the meat of this.

Spicer's enthusiasm for his guests and the subject matter is abundantly apparent as he announces the podcast on the PlayStation Blog. There is also mention of "notable fans" appearing on the podcast which could mean appearances from very unlikely places.

New episodes will be released every Tuesday, starting today June 9th, and will release for the next eight weeks. The podcast has already released in Apple's iTunes and on Spotify and is looking to release on all other podcast platforms in the coming weeks. The episodes leading up to the game's release will mostly be centered around the first game and its DLCs so as not to spoil any of the upcoming Last of Us Part 2 game.

Then, starting July 7th, once gamers have had a chance to play a little of The Last of Us 2 released on June 19th, the podcast will delve a little deeper into the newly released game. The podcast will dive a little deeper into the storyline, the gameplay, and the overall development process. Whether or not this will be a cathartic explanation of why certain characters had to die, is yet to be seen.

The Last of Us podcast is available to listen on most podcast platforms including iTunes and Spotify.
