10 A Tribute To Daniel Kinnard

Daniel Kinnard was one of the developers at Naughty Dog who passed away during the development of The Last of Us Part 1. In a nice touch that has been widely appreciated by fans since its appearance, Naughty Dog added a homage to the developer in their game.

In the farmhouse when Joel and Tommy are searching for Ellie, players can find a baseball poster featuring Daniel Kinnard in one of the rooms. It's a subtle and touching tribute to a developer who clearly put a ton of time and effort into the development of The Last of Us Part 1.

The Last of Us Part 1 features several different skins for the two main characters that can be bought with Points. While players will have to complete the game at least once to make the most of these skins, it's well worth the wait.

The most notable skins are the ones that Ellie can wear. There are a bunch of t-shirts featuring several PlayStation IPs that can send long-time fans down a pretty severe nostalgic trip indeed.

8 One Of Ellie's Outfits Is A Tribute To Kill Bill

Not all of Ellie's outfits are tributes to gaming-related media. In fact, one of her outfits is a bright yellow jumpsuit that is a reference to one of Tarantino's greatest films.

Clearly, this outfit is meant to resemble the one worn by The Bride in Kill Bill. Given how much of a badass Ellie becomes by the end of the game, it's easy to see why this outfit suits her quite a bit.

There are several cheeky easter eggs in The Last of Us that are pretty easily missable. Even a rather unique movie name that is shown multiple times throughout the game can be missed if players aren't thorough with all the environmental details present in the game.

There are various copies of the newspaper The Daily Metro scattered all across the game. The major headline across these copies is "Uncharted 13: A Lush Movie — Justin Bieber as Drake".

6 Various PlayStation 3's Present All Across The Game

A PS3 in The Last of Us

Given that the PlayStation 3 was the console where The Last of Us made its first appearance, it only makes sense that this console would be represented several times in the game. This can be seen in the many inclusions of this system in the game across several points.

The first instance of this console's appearance is in Joel and Sarah's house. The second time players can see this console is in Larry's TV & Stereo, a store that players can encounter as Ellie after they manage to escape from David.

5 Multiple References To The Studio That Made The Game Itself

Naughty Dog hasn't shied away from mentioning their own studio several times in the game as well! These mostly appear in Pittsburgh, where players can find a poster showing the official The Last of Us website by Naughty Dog, with a mousepad later on in the game featuring this logo as well.

There's also a cheekily named pet store called Faithful Dog in the game. Players can happen upon this store after escaping from David, making for a pretty neat inclusion indeed.

4 A Detailed Version Of Clementine's House From Telltale's The Walking Dead

Clementine's House in The Last of Us Part 1

The Last of Us and Telltale's The Walking Dead were two of the most popular story-heavy zombie games that were released around the same time, with The Last of Us coming a year later. So, it's great to see that Naughty Dog paid tribute to this brilliant adventure game.

While roaming the game world with Bill, players will explore a house that looks pretty similar to the one Lee found Clementine in at the very start of The Walking Dead. It's a clever homage, with the house looking even more dilapidated and faithful to its inspiration in The Last of Us Part 1.

3 Plush Toys Of Nathan Drake, Jak, And Daxter

The segment where the player meets the sibling duo of Henry and Sam makes for one of the most memorable moments in the entire game. There's also an easter egg that players can potentially notice right after meeting these two characters.

In a room in Serenity Apartments, players can find plush toys of Jak & Daxter on a dresser and one of Nathan Drake on the bed. The remake makes a small addition here by adding a Nathan Drake plushie on the dresser too.

2 O'Sullivan's Pub Resembles The Pub Where Uncharted 3 Kicks Off

The third Uncharted game has a pretty great and action-packed opening where both Nathan and Sully take part in a pub brawl. People who played The Last of Us Part 1 might've noticed that there's a dilapidated pub in the game that looks like the one Uncharted 3 started off in too!

This place is named O'Sullivan's Pub, which in itself is another reference to Victor "Sully" Sullivan too. This was one of the more popular easter eggs that many fans noticed in the original game as well.

1 The Final Level Hides A Clever Message For The Player

RUN YOU R NEARLY THERE DON'T QUIT message in The Last of Us Part 1

After Joel decides to kill all the Fireflies and save Ellie, the player is tasked with going through the Firefly hospital and killing off everyone Joel finds in the way. It's a brutal final level in a game that expertly deals with the human emotions people feel and how it transcends the need to sacrifice for the greater good.

There are several eye charts present in the game, with one of them housing a pretty interesting message for the player. It reads out "RUN YOU R NEARLY THERE DON'T QUIT!!", which really hammers in the point that the player is at the end of their blood-soaked journey.
