Throughout The Last of Us Part I, players will be able to collect various types of items to provide context to the world. Items such as Firefly pendants are found scattered across the different locations Joel and Ellie travel to, indicating how far the Firefly organization spread and how many they’ve lost over the years.

Other items can also be picked up, such as notes left behind by strangers, maps that have been marked up, and notices from a time that feels long forgotten. These artifacts often provide brief insights into other people’s stories, how they survived, and the ways in which the world has changed over the last two decades since the outbreak. Here is where players can find the artifacts in the second chapter of the game, the Quarantine Zone.

These two artifacts can be found in Joel’s backpack after players have collected it from his and Tess’ hideout. To examine artifacts, players will need to open the menu before selecting the artifact they want to view.

Note to Brother

The Last of Us Part I Artifacts Note to Brother

As Joel and Tess make their way through the spore-infested building and deal with the Infected inside, Tess will lead players to an opening in a wall to leave the building. Before doing so, however, players should take a left at the top of the stairs and open a door across the room. Inside will be a few cubicles and a desk at the back with the note.

Drafting Notice

After passing Malick on the bus to get into the next area and before Tess speaks to a man guarding a gate, players should head towards the left, where a man behind a ramshackle supply cache is standing. The artifact will be on the ground in front of players to collect.

Wanted Poster

From the previous artifact, players should see two people standing by a metal fence. To their left is a notice board, where players can collect the wanted poster of Marlene.

Warehouse Key

The warehouse key cannot be missed, as players need this item to progress. The key will be dropped by one of the guards inside the building discussing the military rounding up members of the Fireflies. The key can be on either the guard that the player or Tess takes down and will be signaled by a chime sound to indicate that the key has fallen on the ground.

Shipping Manifest

When players finally spot Robert, Joel and Tess will jump down onto the docks, which are being patrolled by guards. There is an artifact to the far right by the metal railing and a bucket, but due to the number of enemies here, it is recommended to take them out before going on a collectible run.

Docks Note

From the previous artifact, players should make their way past the large blue shipping containers until they reach a wall with a green tarp draped over part of it. On the ground by the smaller blue-wheeled containers will be the final artifact for this chapter.

There are a total of 99 notes and artifacts that can be found across both The Last of Us Part I and its expansion Left Behind. Collecting them all will reward players with the trophy, “Chronicles.”

The Last of Us Part I is available on PlayStation 5 and a PC version is in development.
