The Last of Us community is always finding unique ways to show its appreciation for the award-winning Naughty Dog franchise, whether it be through fan art or cosplay. However, one The Last of Us fan did something a bit different, as they remade Joel within Saints Row.

While the rebooted Saints Row is not releasing until later this year, players already have access to its character creator via the Saints Row Boss Factory. This neat demo allows players to easily create and share their characters, getting their protagonist ready to go before the game officially launches. A smart bit of marketing that also allows players to jump into the game on day one with a fully created character, many have been testing the limits of the Boss Factory.

While one Reddit user recently made John Wick in Saints Row’s Boss Factory, Redditor RandomGuyOnDaNet90 decided to recreate The Last of Us protagonist Joel. Several aspects of the design are spot-on, with Joel’s face even boasting a cut on the nose - implying that he has taken some damage during a fight with a Clicker or other survivors. His dark hair and beard are also quite accurate, with the only suggestion from commenters being the addition of some more distinct eyebrows. Overall, there is a lot to love about the fan's work.

Perhaps the best aspect of the player creation is the outfit for Joel, as his signature green shirt is present in the creation. While the red lines are a fair bit more prominent than the faded and worn ones on Joel’s actual shirt, the Saints Row top is still a fairly good match. Considering how much clothing is present within the Boss Factory, it is not too surprising that RandomGuyOnDaNet90 was able to find something resembling the shirts Joel has worn in Naughty Dog’s games.

This fan’s tribute to Joel is well-timed, as there is plenty of official The Last of Us content in the works. Players will be taking control of Joel once again later this year, as The Last of Us Part 1 is set to release. Not only is the standalone The Last of Us multiplayer game set to drop in 2023, but so too is the HBO series, which will focus on Joel and Ellie and retell the story of the first game. Over the next two years, players will not only be seeing a lot done with The Last of Us franchise, but Joel will be getting plenty of love as well.

It will be interesting to see if any other The Last of Us characters are made within the Boss Factory. From Tess and Ellie to David and Abby, there are still plenty of options to choose from.

The Last of Us Part 1 launches on September 2 for PS5. A PC version is in development.
