Google has just introduced a new feature that provides fans with an easter egg when they search for The Last of Us. The Last of Us is one of PlayStation's best first party series in terms of both sales and critical acclaim. The series provides a unique take on the zombie apocalypse genre and utilizes its brutal world to highlight the extent humans will go to survive despite any harsh circumstances they have to endure.

Recently, The Last of Us has been adapted the first video game into a TV series on HBO. Live-action video game adaptations have generally received poor to mediocre reception from fans and critics, but currently The Last of Us is raising the bar for video game adaptations. Now, fans of the show and games alike can head to google for a neat little homage.

The TV series adaptation on HBO releases every Sunday and has rejuvenated interest in The Last of Us franchise, attracting new players and interest in the series from those that may not be familiar with video games - making this Easter egg perfectly timed. Google has decided to place it in plain sight for those looking up the franchise in the search engine. As users search for The Last of Us, a mushroom appears on-screen that can be interacted with. When the mushroom is clicked, fungi starts to cover the screen until it is completely filled with infected fungal growth.

The Last of Us is nearing its 10-year anniversary, and it seems 2023 will be a big year for the Last of Us franchise. In addition to the TV series, fans will finally learn more about the long awaited Factions standalone game later this year. Neil Druckmann has gone on record to call it the most ambitious project that Naughty Dog has worked on yet. The Last of Us Part 1, a PS5 remake of the original title built from the ground up, is also getting a port to PC in a few months. Druckmann even teased the possibility of The Last of Us 3 being in development, but nothing has been confirmed as of now.

Fans of The Last of Us certainly have a lot to look forward to this year. As mentioned before, there is a lot that fans are anticipating for the standalone multiplayer, with the game in development since before The Last of Us Part 2 was released back in 2020. Combine that with the precedent set by previous projects of the franchise, and it is safe to say expectations are definitely high.

The Last of Us releases a new episode every Sunday on HBO.
