The Last of Us Day is an event that fans of The Last of Us look forward to every year. Beyond the new merchandise and collaboration announcements, it appears that Naughty Dog has some new The Last of Us content in store for the series' special day.

Last year's The Last of Us Day was a big one for a variety of reasons. Formerly known as Outbreak Day, Naughty Dog renamed the event to The Last of Us Day last year, the former title no longer being appropriate for the worldwide pandemic everyone was experiencing. It was also the first The Last of Us Day since the release of The Last of Us 2, which had only came out a few months prior. The event did not announce too much in the end, just a lot of interesting collaborations and merchandise, with many fans hoping for an official reveal of the long-awaited Factions multiplayer mode.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Naughty Dog confirms it will be announcing new content on this year's The Last of Us Day. Joshua Bradley, the Designer of Communications at Naughty Dog, writes in the post, "We will be revealing some all-new content on September 26 at 9:00am PT/ 6:00pm CET." The post goes on to display the litany of new The Last of Us-inspired products including new clothing items like a Washington Liberation Front bomber jacket, and two gorgeous acoustic guitars, one of which is a replica of Ellie's guitar from The Last of Us 2.

Bradley's post does not give many clues as to what the upcoming "content" will be. The only known projects currently are The Last of Us 2's stand-alone Factions mode, though Naughty Dog has said very little about it, and the Uncharted: Legacy of Theives Collection, coming to PS5 and PC next year. This is a different tactic from Naughty Dog by announcing some of the features of The Last of Us Day prior to the actual day itself; in the past, Naughty Dog has simply posted to the PlayStation Blog on September 26 and that would be that.

So, the content that could be shown may very well be the Factions mode, but one must not forget all the other The Last of Us projects—announced and unannounced—that are likely being worked on right now. For instance, there is the The Last of Us HBO show that has been filming since this past July—perhaps there could be a trailer for it this weekend. More unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibility is a definitive The Last of Us 2 Remastered, as the original game got one when the PS4 was released. Worst case scenario, Naughty Dog's "content" is actually just more merchandise, which wouldn't be the worst thing, but will certainly let some fans down.

The Last of Us Day takes place on September 26.
