Sony surprised a lot of fans by unveiling a lot of new trailers for a lot of its upcoming high profile games during the normally quiet Paris Games Week. Games shown off include new gameplay for God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, Sucker Punch's new IP Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last of Us Part 2. Naughty Dog has been fairly quiet regarding the state of its upcoming Last of Us sequel, and while the trailer didn't convey much in terms of new information, it didn't stop Reddit users from potentially unlocking a few mysteries.
One of the big remaining quests for The Last of Us Part 2 is where the game will be taking place. Reddit user Voldsby is at it again, combing through the latest trailer and extracting more details many fans may have missed including a green and yellow highway sign, which strongly resembles the same sign found in real life on the I-5 Highway under Holgate Street in Seattle, Washington. Going further, Voldsby also noticed a police car during the clicker attack towards the end of the trailer, which looks very similar to the design of a typical Seattle police vehicle.
Using Google maps, further evidence is presented that the location in The Last of Us Part 2 is indeed Seattle as the concept art depicted the Buttnick building and parking garage, which is roughly 1.3 miles away from the street sign found within the latest trailer. Lastly, the foliage and trees depicted are also fairly consistent with what Naughty Dog has revealed in previous concept art and the initial trailer as well.
The new trailer also caused a bit of controversy after its reveal due to the extreme violence and brutality shown, prompting some fans to wonder if the game was being sold more on its violent content than anything else. The debate even caused Jack Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, to defend the game and trailer, stating that The Last of Us Part 2 is a game made by adults for adults and that the company showed off plenty of non-violent games during its Paris Games Week conference. Ultimately, The Last of Us Part 2 is clearly heading for an M rating, further preventing many younger gamers from getting their hands on the title.
The Last of Us Part 2 will launch in 2018, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
