Sony may have already shot down the idea that the upcoming State of Play event will offer any new details about the company's next-gen console, but that doesn't mean the event isn't going to have any mic drop moments. After years of waiting to confirm an official release date for The Last of Us 2, it seems that the announcement is just days away. The big moment may have just been spoiled by a retailer listing though...

The Last of Us 2 first took the stage at E3 a few years back with a moody and quiet cinematic trailer, but the development has come a long way since then. We've now seen extended The Last of Us 2 gameplay footage and learned more about where the story will take the young protagonist. Some gamers have worried that the title was being delayed until the PS5 release, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. The September 24 State of Play is going to focus on game news and updates and rumors are strongly suggesting that the long suspected February 2020 release date will be confirmed during the event.

Just a few days ahead of the upcoming September State of Play a Swedish retailer may have spoiled part of the announcement by updating its pre-order posting with a February 28, 2020 release date. The listing just changed yesterday and fans are already losing their minds at the possibility of playing highly anticipated sequel in early 2020.

That said, this date should definitely be taken with a grain of salt. The February release date has been a rumor for a long time and it's possible that the retailer was just using the last release day of the month as a placeholder while updating their system. Either way, we'll definitely know a lot more come this week when the Sony event takes place and fans hopefully hear some brand new details about the upcoming Naughty Dog game and its release window.

With The Last of Us 2 rumored to be larger than anyone expected, it will be very exciting to learn any new details about the game. Naughty Dog's tweet has confirmed that TLOU2 news is arriving on September 24, so now all we have to do is wait patiently for the official word.

Be sure to check back for more details and news about The Last of Us 2 in the coming days as we draw closer to the State of Play event.
