At the most recent PlayStation State of Play event, Sony finally revealed the release date for The Last of Us 2. We now know that the long-awaited survival-horror game will be coming on February 21, 2020, and as is the case with most games nowadays, there is an incentive for people to pre-order.
Along with The Last of Us 2 release date, Sony has confirmed the game's pre-order bonuses. No matter which version of The Last of Us 2 players pre-order, they will get a free ammo capacity upgrade at launch, along with the crafting training manual. These are in-game items that should give players an early advantage in the game compared to those who decide to wait for launch instead of pre-ordering.
When it comes to pre-ordering The Last of Us 2, fans have multiple editions to choose from. There's the standard edition of the game, the Special Edition (which comes with an artbook), the Collector's Edition (which comes with an Ellie statue along with some other goodies), and the Ellie Edition (pictured below). The Ellie Edition of The Last of Us 2 comes with the most items, including a replica of Ellie's backpack that she will be using throughout the game.
Between the special editions of the game and the release date, Naughty Dog revealed a lot about The Last of Us 2 in the most recent State of Play. It also released a new story and gameplay trailer that finally revealed Joel, who hadn't been seen clearly since the game's reveal.
Something that still has yet to be revealed in regards to The Last of Us 2 is whether or not the game will have a multiplayer mode. There have been conflicting reports over the past few years, but since the original game had multiplayer, many have assumed that the sequel will have it as well. There's no official word on The Last of Us 2 multiplayer at the time of this writing, so fans will have to wait to learn more at a later date.
As for when we may see The Last of Us 2 again before launch, it's quite possible it will be featured at The Game Awards in December, or in another PlayStation State of Play presentation between now and then. Fans will just have to stay tuned to find out.
