Sony recently confirmed that its next State of Play presentation will take place on September 24, but it stopped short of specifying which games will be featured. However, Naughty Dog has since taken to Twitter to tweet a new image for The Last of Us 2 that confirms the highly-anticipated action adventure/survival-horror game will be a part of the September 24 PlayStation State of Play presentation.
Now that we know that The Last of Us 2 will be at the September 24 PlayStation State of Play, the next question on fans' minds is what exactly will learn about the game next week? Since we haven't seen much of The Last of Us 2, anything is a possibility, really. It's quite possible that we will see more of the game's story in action, including details about Joel's role, and a better idea of exactly what fans can expect from the narrative.
Another possibility is that we will get our first look at The Last of Us 2 multiplayer at the State of Play. There's been some evidence to suggest that The Last of Us 2 multiplayer has been scrapped, but that hasn't been confirmed or denied by Naughty Dog at this time. If The Last of Us 2 does end up having multiplayer, we imagine that it will be similar to the versus multiplayer mode that was featured in the original game.
There's also a chance that Naughty Dog will use the PlayStation State of Play presentation to finally announce The Last of Us 2 release date. Speculation has been running rampant about when The Last of Us 2 will finally come out, with estimations and "leaks" putting the game's release anywhere from February 2020 to next holiday season. If The Last of Us 2 release date is announced at the State of Play, it will undoubtedly be one of the biggest announcements that the event has to offer.
It's worth pointing out that Naughty Dog is hosting a press event on September 24, the same day as the State of Play, so even if a release date announcement doesn't come during the video presentation, one could be announced then. Between the two events, though, it seems fans of The Last of Us 2 have plenty to look forward to come September 24.
