Given how dark and depressing the world of The Last of Us 2 is, there are only a few moments where the characters get to truly be happy. However, fan art is able to change that, and one The Last of Us 2 fan has proven this by showing off how the cast would celebrate Halloween.

More lighthearted The Last of Us art is not entirely unheard of, as fans have created cheerful Joel and Ellie plushies as well as art pieces where Abby and Ally are friends instead of enemies. More recently, a funny The Last of Us 2 poster imagined the characters in a comedy film, with their wide smiles being both heartwarming and off-putting. Now, Reddit user DoomsdayDaveVP has shared a series of renders that showcase the game’s characters in various Halloween costumes.

While DoomsdayDaveVP could have just thrown the cast into generic ghost and zombie outfits, they instead gave the characters costumes directly inspired by other games and movies. Resident Evil outfits kicked off the batch of incredible renders, with Ellie dressed as Jill Valentine and Dina wearing Claire Redfield’s signature red jacket. If that was not enough, Joel is shown in Leon’s RPD gear. Given how dangerous the worlds of both franchises are, and the similar enemies the survivors need to fight in order to stay alive, this is a fitting crossover.

The next batch of renders sees Dina and Ellie becoming DC superheroes, with the characters transforming into Wonder Woman and Batgirl respectively. Commenters were quick to point out how well the characters suited their respective heroes, with Ellie’s vengeful nature making her a good fit for Batgirl and Dina’s kindness making her a solid Wonder Woman. The latter’s hair also makes her look the part of Diana Prince. A more random render sees Joel as Sebastian Castellanos from The Evil Within series, and it is interesting to see him wear something so different from his usual attire.

The final set of costumes imagines The Last of Us 2 characters in the Star Wars universe. Given how violent and focused Ellie is in her pursuit of Abby, the character’s choice to dress as an Inquisitor makes perfect sense. Jesse and Dina take on more fun looks, with the former becoming Han Solo and the latter dressing as Princess Leia. Jesse looks particularly good as Han, with his hairstyle matching the lovable smuggler’s well. With over 2,500 upvotes and plenty of positive comments, many clearly love the Redditor’s work.

With DoomsdayDaveVP promising more renders, like one that sees Ellie dressing as Elena or Chloe from the Uncharted series, fans will have to keep an eye on the artist’s future posts. For now, though, they have this memorable set of images to appreciate.

The Last of Us 2 is available now on PS4.
