Sony's State of Play conference was brimming with details about numerous games. However, the game that got the most attention was The Last of Us 2. Naughty Dog finally revealed the TLOU2 release date, building more hype for the game, but a listing on Best Buy has also revealed the game is set to be on two-discs.
The Last of Us 2 is the sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time. After an incredibly dramatic ending to the first title in the series, fans have been hoping for more. After a five year wait, there is now enough information for fans to have an idea of the sequel's story and the size of the world which it will inhabit.
It is very likely that the second disk will serve as an installation disk similar to Red Dead Redemption 2's setup. This should mean that the game is playable on one disk once the installation disc has been downloaded. Bearing in mind that sizable Naughty Dog games such as Uncharted 4 were on one disc, the level of detail and scope for The Last of Us 2 is huge, and the majority of players will be looking forward to seeing what has become of Ellie. Conveniently, The Last of Us Remastered is available as one of PlayStation Plus' free games this October, so fans can become reacquainted with the story.
Many fans will be keen to delve back into the world of The Last of Us and carry on Ellie's story. Ellie is now an adult, navigating the scary apocalyptic future that players of the first game will be familiar with. On top of this, the most recent trailer revealed Joel's appearance and this has made the anticipation for The Last of Us 2 to reach new heights. Many players won't care about the size of the world but the impact of the story, and with rumors of the games graphics capabilities, a cinematic narrative may be the focus of the game and reason for the two-discs.
There have been rumors that The Last of Us 2 will have groundbreaking graphics, and this could quite possibly be the reason for the file size of the game. Whether the file size is because of the scope of the world, the cinematic visuals, or both, players will want a story that gives the depth of the games' predecessor. If Naughty Dog can provide a game with the narrative weight of The Last of Us, then players are in for a treat with the sequel.
