During the most recent PlayStation State of Play presentation, Naughty Dog finally revealed The Last of Us 2 release date, and showed off a brand new gameplay and story trailer to boot. Since then, members of the gaming press have had the chance to go hands-on with the game, playing through the first couple of hours of Ellie's heartbreaking new adventure. While the game is sure to have plenty of terrifying moments and horrific imagery, it will also have some humor, as evidenced by a hilarious and NSFW Crash Bandicoot easter egg that's already been found in the game.
When exploring the world of The Last of Us 2, those who previewed the game played through a snowstorm as Ellie and her partner Dina. Ellie and Dina take refuge inside a bookstore, and while exploring that area, they discover a hidden room that's been converted to a marijuana grow house by a character named Eugene. Players can find some unsavory things in Eugene's secret room, including his collection of VHS pornography videos.
The Last of Us 2 porn videos include parodies, which is a common thing in the adult entertainment industry. Eugene even has an adult film parody called "Smash Brandi's Cooch" - which is an obvious play on "Crash Bandicoot," one of Naughty Dog's earliest games.
Those who were able to preview The Last of Us 2 found other references to past Naughty Dog games in this area, which are far more appropriate. For example, Ellie can find a PlayStation 3, along with a stack of some of Naughty Dog's other games, like the Uncharted series.
Naughty Dog has often filled its games with easter eggs and references to its past work. For example, Uncharted 4 actually lets player play a level from Crash Bandicoot, and other Uncharted games have featured Precursor Objects from the Jak and Daxter series for players to find. Considering this, it's likely that there will be even more Naughty Dog easter eggs to find in The Last of Us 2 once the game launches early next year. Any other easter eggs players find in The Last of Us 2 will likely be a little less inappropriate, however.
The Last of Us 2 launches on February 21, 2020, exclusively for PS4.
