During Sony's E3 2016 press conference, Team Ico unveils a brand new trailer for the long-awaited The Last Guardian and finally announces its official release date.
As many gaming fans expected, Sony's E3 2016 press conference was set to be full of big reveals and surprises. In fact, shortly following the confirmation of a rumored God of War game, the company showed a new trailer for The Last Guardian. While the footage in the clip for Team Ico's forthcoming game is certainly intriguing to say the least, perhaps the most important part about the announcement is the definitive listing of a release date for October 25, 2016.
Ever since its announcement years ago, The Last Guardian was delayed again and again, leading many to believe that the game would never get made. However, the fact that the newest set of compiled footage has finally given fans an exact time frame as to when it should drop ought to be reason enough to believe that it is finally getting pulled out of development hell.
As seen in the trailer below, we're shown more interaction between the creature Trico and the main character of the young boy solving puzzles, evading enemies, and exploring the picturesque landscapes and environments of The Last Guardian. Although the footage offers little in the way of a potential story, it's safe to presume the narrative will either be revealed with time, or might not have a clearly defined plot at all, as Team Ico is known for creating games such as Shadow of the Colossus, which has a paper thin, yet enchanting story.
Considering the lengthy amount of time fans have had to wait for The Last Guardian to make its way from the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, the fact that it seems to be a reality now will surely heighten gamers' excitement for what many consider to be one of the most anticipated video games of 2016. Speaking of The Last Guardian's incredibly sluggish delay from announcement to the finish line, even the title's director Fumito Ueda said that its long development process was "completely unexpected."
Nevertheless, it seems as if The Last Guardian is in the home stretch when it comes to being completed. Of course, there's always the possibility of totally unforeseen circumstances cropping up to cause developers to push The Last Guardian's release date back. Should that occur, however, some fans might give up on the title altogether.
