The official website for The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc released a promo on Saturday, revealing that it will air on December 31.

The episode will air as a New Year’s special at 11:57 p.m. and will be accompanied by a special New Year’s celebration video. The promotional video additionally revealed that the theme song, “Ripe Aster” will be performed by singer Kairi Yagi.

The anime will adapt the light novel’s Reminiscence Arc, which takes place during the eighth volume. Yūichi Nakamura and Saori Hayami will return to voice Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, respectively. Newcomers Kikuko Inoue and Aya Endo will voice Miya Shiba and Honami Sakurai.

Studio 8bit, best known for their work on the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Grisaia series’, will return to work on the Reminiscence Arc anime.

Director Risako Yoshida is returning to work on the project after heading the second season and Girl Who Calls the Stars film. Yoshida has also directed Blue Reflection Ray and Diabolik Lovers More, Blood. Scriptwriter Munemasa Nakamoto is returning as well as original character designer and chief animation director Kana Ishida.

Nakamoto has worked on popular series such as Sword Art Online, Nisekoi, and the Monogatari series alongside his work on The Irregular at Magic High School. Ishida has been responsible for the series’ character designs throughout its run, handling the art for the various manga adaptations.

Tsutomu Satō’s The Irregular at Magic High School light novel series was published in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko imprint from 2011 to 2020. The series amassed 32 collected volumes, with 10 additional side stories. Its popularity inspired a handful of light novel spin-offs and a variety of manga, each adapting different arcs from the novels.

A 26-episode anime produced by Studio Madhouse first aired in 2014. 8bit would take over production of the series with 2017s The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars, animating the Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc series three years later. A 13-episode adaptation The Honor Student at Magic High School manga aired in July.

The light novel licensed by Yen Press, with 17 of its 32 volumes translated in English so far. Aniplex USA licenses the series, with Crunchyroll carrying its first season and Funimation offering both.
