The Game Awards hosted by Geoff Keighley will announce its nominees for an estimated 30 categories soon. Fans across all games have grown to anticipate The Game Awards show now in its 8th year.
Thanks to the spectacle of the show, the announcements of games coming in the next year, and major engagement across many social platforms, the show has become one of the gaming industry's biggest nights of the year and draws millions of viewers to The Game Awards streams every year. Though the weight of voting is spread out among video game publications, fans, and developers, the crown of Game of the Year has become the hallmark title in the industry. The show also highlights gaming communities, independent games, and key moments that happened throughout the year.
The announcements for nominees of each of the categories in The Game Awards will take place on Monday, November 14 at Noon Eastern Time, 9 AM Pacific Time, and 5 PM Greenwich Mean Time. The show revealing the nominees will be streamed on Twitter, YouTube, and Twitch. The favorites for Game of The Year have been Elden Ring with the recently released God of War: Ragnarok possibly giving a late challenge. A variety of games may be able to snag some awards in other categories like Best Art Direction, Best Mobile Game, Best Indie Title, and others.
The show has also become a place where games that may release the following year get premiere trailers or known games get new gameplay trailers. Expectations have begun being set that Xbox may show more first-party titles like Starfield and Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, the latter of which got its last trailer during the 2021 Game Awards. Sony missed out on the opportunity for a Fall 2022 PlayStation Showcase and may also take the stage since most of its major titles for the PlayStation 5 have now been released. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may finally get a gameplay trailer, as well as The Last of Us Factions and others. In October, Activision also teased that something from Crash Bandicoot may be shown during the show.
Geoff Keighley has teased that he has seen amazing things in preparation for the December 8 show. With his love for games and cameos, expectations for the show are always set high. The show can also be a bit lengthy thanks to ads that help pay for the production and Microsoft Theater, the musical performances, skits, and celebrity appearances, but it all goes toward making the night memorable for people in attendance and fans at home.
