Tonight, The Game Awards will officially celebrate gaming in 2019. Awards will be given to the biggest contenders of the year, and fans of the titles will be validated in their favorites. But the Game Awards has had a history of adding just a little more than just awards for the previous year.

In years past, The Game Awards have also revealed a number of upcoming games for the following year, with the Game Awards this year having a number of rumored announcements. The Game Awards has turned into a show about celebrating recent greatness and also looking ahead at what's to come.

According to a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) by The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, around 10 new games are prepared to be announced during the show. While he did confirm a no show at the Game Awards, there were no hints given regarding the types of games that will be revealed, but Nintendo of America went out of its way to tweet about The Game Awards, which holds a bit of historical context.

Last year, Nintendo revealed the first DLC character for their titular game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at the 2018 Game Awards. The reveal came as a surprise, as the delayed character releases via DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was yet unknown, so as such, many expect Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character 5 to be revealed at the show. Considering Joker's reveal during last year's show, it wouldn't be a stretch, or perhaps it will be something entirely new from the video game giant.

Although, Nintendo has otherwise plenty of reasons to tweet about The Game Awards, as former President Reggie Fils-Aime will make an appearance as a guest presenter. Nintendo also has plenty of games nominated for awards such as the category for "Best Family Game," which is made up entirely of Nintendo published titles, including Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Rumors have indicated that Metriod Prime Switch Trilogy could even be announced, yet the company's interest could simply be to build hype for The Game Awards because of its dominance in the market this year.

There are hints from other developers regarding news at The Game Awards. Founder and former employee of Arkane Studios Raphael Colantonio started a new studio with former co-worker Julien Roby called WolfEye Studios. He's noted that the company is working on a new game that it's pretty tight-lipped on but plans to reveal more at The Game Awards.

The Game Awards 2019 will begin tonight at 8:30 p.m. EST.
