The countdown to The Game Awards is in full swing and Geoff Keighley (The Game Awards Showrunner and Host) has promised to share more details regarding this year's presenters, performers, and information on video game world premieres. Keighley's first announcement for the week is that Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam would be performing during the big show.

While it may seem like an odd decision at first, Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam have a strong connection to one of this year's top nominees. Pearl Jam's song "Future Days" is featured heavily in Naughty Dog's hit game, The Last of Us Part 2. During the game, Joel gives Ellie a guitar but before he does, Joel, and the player using the game's guitar mechanic, plays the song "Future Days" for her, a song that would stick with Ellie throughout her journey.

Aside from Eddie Vedder, presumably, playing a song from the game, viewers can expect to see plenty of The Last of Us Part 2 during The Game Awards. The Game Award nominees were announced two weeks ago and The Last of Us Part 2 received a staggering 10 nominations including nods for Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Action/Adventure, and for overall Game of the Year.

Musical performances have always been a big part of The Game Awards. In years past The Game Awards has seen CHVRCHES perform their song "Death Stranding" for the game of the same title and Grimes performer her song "4AM" for Cyberpunk 2077, a game in which she voices a character. The biggest performance of the night from past shows has been a musical orchestra putting on a medley of video game music from each of The Game Awards Game of the Year nominees, although it'll be interesting to see how this is pulled off with a virtual show.

Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Geoff Keighly has stayed committed to making The Game Awards happen in some fashion. On Twitter, Keighley described how The Game Awards 2020 would look this year from a totally virtual setting. He mentions that doing the show in this format will let him bring on special guests from all around the world and that the show will still have live awards given out and live musical performances.

The Game Awards is happening live on December 10, which is shaping up to be a pretty big day for gamers across the industry. While The Game Awards will most likely be the talk of the evening after awards are handed out and games are announced, it also happens to be the same day that Call of Duty launches its newest season of Warzone which will integrate the newly released Black Ops Cold War title. Also, the eight-ish year wait for Cyberpunk 2077 finally comes to a close as the game is expected to release on December 10.

The Game Awards is broadcasting live on December 10.
