The Game Awards has become an increasingly bigger event, with each year not just recognizing the industry's best games, but also featuring plenty of exciting world premiere game reveals. And with the next-generation of video game consoles launching this year, The Game Awards 2020 is exciting as ever. Host Geoff Keighley has officially announced The Game Awards 2020 date, and so fans can now mark their calendars.

Keighley has announced that The Game Awards 2020 will take place on Thursday, December 10, emanating live from Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo. This seems to suggest that The Game Awards 2020 will feature appearances from video game developers all over the world. And considering how closely Hideo Kojima has been linked to Keighley and The Game Awards in the past, one has to imagine that the famed developer will be making an appearance during the Tokyo portion of the show.

Meanwhile, Nibellion has revealed some additional details about The Game Awards 2020. Apparently, the event will see the return of the Game Festival promotion, which will allow fans to play demos of some of the titles that are showcased. One of the new awards will be the Accessibility Award, presumably given out to the game with the best accessibility options. And finally, The Game Awards will be streamed live across 45 different video platforms, which means there should be plenty of ways to fans to tune in and see what all the fuss is about.

Many fans will be happy that The Game Awards 2020 is taking place at all this year. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has canceled plenty of planned gaming events, including E3 2020. But while the coronavirus pandemic may mean that The Game Awards 2020 are not quite as extravagant as previous years, the event should still feature plenty of exciting reasons for gaming enthusiasts to tune in.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see which game wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020. There have been a notable of highly-rated games this year, including The Last of Us 2HadesHalf-Life: Alyx, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One has to imagine that those will be some of the top contenders, though the full list of nominees likely won't be revealed until the end of November or early December.

After all, there are still plenty of major 2020 video games that have yet to launch, including Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarAssassin's Creed ValhallaCrash Bandicoot 4, and many more. Fans will need to get their hands on some of these games before The Game Awards 2020 nominee list can be finalized.
