Skyrim has inspired countless mods ever since its release in 2011, but few have been quite as successful as The Forgotten City. No longer a mod for another game, The Forgotten City is now its own standalone game, where players have to solve a murder mystery in a time loop, all in an ancient Room. The Forgotten City is now available across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, earning high reviews in the process, though there's been some confusion about its release.

As reported by PureXbox, a since-deleted tweet had indicated that The Forgotten City was coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one. It seems that this tweet was made in error, as there are no plans to bring The Forgotten City to Xbox Game Pass at this time. Anyone interested in playing The Forgotten City on Xbox will have to shell out the reasonable $29.99 that it's currently listed for on the Microsoft Store.

The Forgotten City was award-winning as a Skyrim mod, so it will be interesting to see if it's up for any awards after its standalone release. As previously stated, The Forgotten City reviews have been mostly positive, with a great deal of praise given to the game for its unique premise, engaging story, and sharp writing. Considering the game's positive reviews, it seems like a safe bet for anyone hoping to play it, even if they can't check it out through Xbox Game Pass.

While The Forgotten City is not an Xbox Game Pass game, subscribers to the service have plenty of titles to check out. This week alone has been huge for Xbox Game Pass, as the Xbox Series X version of Microsoft Flight Simulator has finally launched, giving console players to check out one of the highest-rated games of 2020. And even more games are coming to Xbox Game Pass later this week as well.

One of the most notable is co-op cyberpunk game The Ascent, which has looked very impressive in previews so far. There are plenty of Xbox Game Pass games coming in August as well, including high profile games like Psychonauts 2. So while some Xbox Game Pass subscribers may be disappointed that The Forgotten City is not available on the service at this time, they should still have plenty of games to keep them busy, and there's always a chance that it could be added to the Game Pass lineup at some point down the line.

The Forgotten City is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
