After months of anticipation, The Flash’s first trailer was revealed ahead of the Super Bowl, and judging from fans’ early impressions it looks like this DC adventure will be well worth the wait for all the Barry Allens, Bruce Waynes and a few unexpected guests.

Despite Michael Keaton’s involvement in The Flash being confirmed since the movie’s early stages, this preview teases he will have a big role in much of the film’s action, thus confirming any suspicions coming from this week’s poster reveal where the fastest man alive can be seen standing alone in his Batcave. As suggested, The Flash does look like the kind of movie that could definitely serve to reset the new DC Universe, meaning the odds of Ezra Miller being kept around might have flipped tonight.

The trailer, which was instantly a hit on Twitter, starts off as many had theorized, with Barry watching his childhood home from afar as he travels back in time before his mother’s death, which is the one event that will send him on a quest to find a universe where Nora Allen lives. However, no matter how impressive that first shot of The Flash costume appears to be, he won’t be the only Bary Allen showing up, though the unfortunate revelation that the protagonist’s multiversal transgressions land him in a universe where there are no superheroes and General Zod has just landed on Earth is definitely the biggest shocker.

Of course, while Michael Shannon’s return as Zod wowed many, the image of Keaton as Batman does not disappoint and steal the show from Ben Affleck, especially since it's the older actor who will be vital in the efforts to stop the Man of Steel's villain. Sure, there’s no Superman here, but Sasha Calle’s Supergirl makes her debut, and she looks every bit as powerful as her cousin, impressing the other Barry the same way Clark Kent's powers marveled his Justice League peers.

Feedback for the trailer has been exceptional with the CGI being praised by some due to how polished it looks, and the same goes for The Flash’s main costume, although some brief glances of the alternate version can be spotted by focusing on certain key frames. It also didn’t take long for people to start theory-crafting what other surprises The Flash could have in store as some noted that the motorcycle driven by Batman in the film look incredibly similar to the vehicle that Christian Bale had in his Batcave, so yes, Warner Bros. has reason to feel so optimistic about this movie.

The Flash is scheduled for release on June 16, 2023
