There's no doubt that many consider Bethesda and Tango Gameworks' survival-horror title The Evil Within 2 to be one of the best horror games of 2017 thanks to its creepy atmospherics, gruesome enemies, and its deep exploration of psychological terror. Now, the companies are looking to immerse fans into the game's frightening world even more than before by adding a brand new first-person gameplay mode, which is available now.

As seen below in the trailer for The Evil Within 2's first-person mode, fans of the survival-horror title can get an idea of what it's like to play as the protagonist Sebastian Castellanos while seeing through his eyes, as he explores the often nightmarish STEM world. Should it not be one's cup of tea, though, Bethesda has said that players can switch from the game's default third-person camera perspective to first-person at any point while playing by simply flipping a switch in a menu.

For those unaware, owners of the PC version of The Evil Within 2 have had unofficial access to the survival-horror title’s first-person mode since October 2017. Although initially meant to be played solely in third-person, fans of the game on the platform eventually discovered a first-person option was available as a console command with the input of pl_FPS 1. With this being the case, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fans will likely be thankful for Bethesda adding the ability to change camera perspectives on the Sony and Microsoft systems.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see whether The Evil Within 2's third-person or first-person perspective is more popular with fans, and if those who have already beaten the game in third-person will come back to try it again in first-person. At any rate, the frightening foes in The Evil Within 2 definitely have the potential to be much more fearsome when encountered in first-person.

The Evil Within 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
