The Elder Scrolls Online is approaching the launch of its sixth expansion pack – called Chapters – in High Isle, a story centered around the legacy of the Bretons, arguably one of the franchise's more underdeveloped races, especially when compared to the fan-favorite Dunmer or Khajiit. As High Isle appears ever closer on the horizon, ZeniMax Online Studios has made the decision to offer its first Chapter free to all Elder Scrolls Online players.

A process that started with One Tamriel that transformed The Elder Scrolls Online into what it is today, the Morrowind Chapter represented the culmination of lessons that the development team learned as they created post-launch content for the base game. Combining the best parts of the Orsinium DLC, arguably a prototype for Chapters in its own right, ZeniMax Online Studios introduced an intriguing main storyline in a vast new zone, with a new class to boot.

With an announcement yesterday on its website, that content is now available to any Elder Scrolls Online player who logs in to the game. This entails being able to explore the island of Vvardenfell, see the dazzling cantons of Vivec City, and interact with the gruff Ashlander tribes at the island's heart. An important thing to note is that the Warden class, introduced with the Morrowind Chapter, is not included in this free DLC offer – and would thus need to be purchased separately.

Elder Scrolls Online Morrowind Chapter Overview

Perhaps the most enticing part of this DLC is the land of Vvardenfell itself. Known to any Elder Scrolls fan, it was the setting of the third game in the franchise, and it is lovingly recreated in Elder Scrolls Online. Though some artistic liberties were taken, such as with Seyda Neen's imperial architecture, the foreign charm of Vvardenfell is just as powerful and just as memorable today as it was in 2002.

Given that purchasing the base game version since the Summerset Chapter retroactively awards players with the Morrowind Chapter, this is a change that will affect returning players the most, as not only will it provide them access to some of the best content The Elder Scrolls Online can offer, but it will also prepare them for the High Isle Chapter, whose prologue starts off in Vvardenfell.

High Isle will launch on June 6, and will follow the standard release window of all the Chapters preceding it – which has thus far been from the first week of May through the first week of June.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
