The Elder Scrolls Online is preparing to roll out its next story DLC, FIresong, which takes players to islands in the Systres Archipelago where they'll get a chance to learn more about the lore of Tamriel's druids. Accompanying the story DLC will be The Elder Scrolls Online's next free major update focused on balance changes, bug fixes, and quality-of-life additions.

The Elder Scrolls Online brought the world of Tamriel into an MMORPG setting with impressive scale and detail back in 2014 and has been continuously evolving over the years since its release. Dozens of major updates such as the pivotal One Tamriel update that allowed all players to freely explore every area in the game regardless of level have reshaped The Elder Scrolls Online's gameplay, while a consistent release schedule of expansions and DLCs have brought along tons of additional quests, locations, and even new classes. As a free-to-play MMORPG, it's crucial for the game to introduce new content and updates in order to keep things interesting for its massive player base.

Firesong is due to arrive on November 1 for PC and November 15 for consoles, and, like most DLC for The Elder Scrolls Online, will be included with the ESO Plus subscription or purchasable with 2,000 Crowns. In Firesong, players will explore the home of Tamriel's druids, the fertile and heavily forested island of Galen. The region will contain all the expected gameplay features of a zone in The Elder Scrolls Online such as new world bosses, delves, plenty of side quests, and a central standalone storyline. Completing both Firesong and the High Isle Chapter will also unlock new bonus quests that bring the year-long Legacy of the Bretons story to its conclusion, so players interested in learning the ultimate fate of the Systres Archipelago will need to play through the DLC.

In addition to Firesong, a major free update for The Elder Scrolls Online should hopefully improve many aspects of the game. Players will gain the ability to place target markers on enemies which is a highly useful feature for raiders, and a new text-to-speech accessibility option should help players who may experience difficulties reading text. Player class pets such as bears and familiars can now be hidden in town which should improve performance for some players and alleviate the annoying clutter around crafting stations. Naturally, the update will apply a number of bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as a rework of the Warden's Piercing Cold passive skill which will now bring a damage increase when an Ice Staff is equipped.

There has been some controversy over the recent The Elder Scrolls Online update due to significant changes made to the game's combat, and it doesn't look like the upcoming Update 36 will be doing much to roll back those changes. Regardless, the game is still one of the best free-to-play MMORPGs in the market and is worth giving a shot.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available now for Mac, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
