Without a doubt, Bethesda's decision to reveal a teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls 6 during E3 2018 not only generated a groundswell of excitement around the long-running fantasy-RPG's fan base, but also caused them to breath a sigh of relief to know that it's still in production. Although the game's release is likely a long time away from now, the publisher and developer has begun discussing certain details about the title, with Bethesda Game Studios' executive director Todd Howard having now divulged that the sequel's setting was settled on "a while ago".

This much was revealed during a recent interview between Howard and Eurogamer, with the Bethesda Game Studios executive director then going on to state that The Elder Scrolls 6 fans might even be able to work out a general idea of the game's region will be thanks to what was shown in the aforementioned teaser trailer. In regards to the trailer containing clues as to what the setting could be, Howard said, "I obviously would say yes, but you can't - it's intentionally... You can rule some things out. And you can rule some things in."

Obviously, Howard didn't answer Eurogamer's direct question as to what The Elder Scrolls 6's setting is, but the Bethesda Game Studios executive director did offer fans an idea as to why the sequel was revealed at E3 2018. According to Howard, with people already letting their own assumptions guide them about The Elder Scrolls 6, he figured that the studio should just openly confirm it's in the works despite being in a pre-production phase. As the Bethesda head explained, "Let's just say it. It's better to say we're making it. It makes life a little bit easier for us. [If we didn't say anything] they would be disappointed and they'd still ask 'What about Starfield?' and 'What about Elder Scrolls 6?'."

Taking all of this into consideration, while Bethesda has already laid the ground work long in advance for The Elder Scrolls 6's setting, it's still safe to say that the title is a long way from completion, especially since Starfield is going to come out before the fantasy-RPG sequel. Nevertheless, it's good to know that TES 6 is coming.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in production for unspecified platforms.
