As many gaming fans might attest, Bethesda's confirmation of The Elder Scrolls 6 during its E3 2018 press conference was one of the biggest surprise games at the show, as many had expected the company to announce it next year at the earliest. Of course, the forthcoming fantasy-RPG sequel is still a long ways away from officially releasing, and TES6 could wind up being a release for the next generation of gaming hardware.

According to ZeniMax Online Studios game director Matt Firor, it will be quite a while until The Elder Scrolls 6 actually comes out, and since this is the case, it is far too early to discuss what the forthcoming game will contain. Regarding the matter, Firor said, "I don't even know what the world is going to be like when it comes out; there will be a different console generation by then, I'm sure. Who knows. But I know we're free and clear for a long time."

While it appears as if The Elder Scrolls 6 may not see the light of day until gamers are already using the next generation of gaming hardware, Bethesda will be supplementing the wait for the fantasy-RPG with games such as Fallout 76 and the mysterious Starfield. And speaking of the latter title, the publisher and developer has yet to determine exactly when Starfield will be ready, which could lead to it and The Elder Scrolls 6 releasing on next-gen systems.

Although The Elder Scrolls 6 fans shouldn't hold their breath when it comes to the title's release, it's a good sign for the game's quality that Bethesda has been doing its due diligence when it comes to pre-production work, as the studio has already proclaimed that the fantasy-RPG's setting was established long ago. So, taking all of this into account, it will be interesting to see when fans eventually get to see the first official piece of footage for TES6.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in the works, but has yet to receive an official release date.
