A new trailer demonstrates the improved visuals and shadows that the PC version of The Division will feature, courtesy of Nvidia’s GameWorks technology.
Although most major AAA titles eventually make their way to nearly every current-gen gaming system, games that release simultaneously on multiple systems often leave gamers in a quandary as to which version to purchase. One of the advantages of playing a PC version of a game is that gamers can often enjoy superior graphics, providing their computer is up to the task, and The Division is no exception. A recent video from the developers behind the game show off the technology that the PC version of it will will feature, courtesy of tools from Nvidia.
With just over a week until The Division releases, chances are most gamers have already made up their minds about which system they’ll be playing the game on. However, the demonstration trailer, shows the level of detail that PC players will see during their playthroughs.
According to the narrator and Technical Director of The Division, Anders Holmquist, the PC version of the game will make use of Nvidia’s GameWorks Technologies to create an even more realistic appearance. Specifically, the game will make use of Horizon-Based Ambient Occlusion+ to create more detail and vivid shadows around objects and environments. In addition, they’re using Percentage Closer Softer Shadows to make shadows that would normally appear overly sharp look softer around the edges the further away the object casting the shadow is, emulating reality.
Nvidia GameWorks has been used in the development of many games before, like Watch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Batman: Arkham Origins. While these games have looked good on their respective console versions, the PC versions have had an extra level of shadow detail, object physics, and improved lighting, taking environments and models that already look good and making them look even better.
This is the latest in perks that PC players will have access to while playing The Division. A recent trailer for the title has promised gorgeous 60 FPS graphics on The Division‘s PC version, and the game will also support eye-tracking technology. This particular perk will allow PC players to partially control their game based on what part of the screen they’re looking at.
Game footage comparisons of The Division have shown that the PC version has more options and generally looks better than when it’s played on the PlayStation 4. However, the director has also been adamant that although the PC version will have all the aforementioned perks, the console versions of The Division will look excellent too.
The Division is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and judging by the 6.4 million beta players and the promises that Ubisoft is making, it should meet or exceed gamers’ expectations.
The Division is set to release on March 8th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
