Tom Clancy's The Division released way back in 2016, but mobile gamers were left in the dark at the time. Ubisoft has officially confirmed that The Division franchise will finally be arriving on mobile devices soon.
Ubisoft confirmed in an official statement that The Division Mobile will be releasing after Red Storm studio's The Division Heartland, which will release for consoles and PC in 2021 or 2022. The reception to The Division community has exceeded Ubisoft's expectations and has broken several Ubisoft records, inspiring the company to look at more ways for fans to enjoy the franchise.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 has become one of Ubisoft's most successful titles, reaching over 40 million players since it released early in 2019. Heartland and The Division Mobile aren't the only ideas related to The Division franchise that Ubisoft shared in its recent update as the company is also looking at releasing a novel based on the games and a Netflix film adaptation as well. A timeline that accompanied this update suggests that The Division Heartland will be followed by new The Division 2 content, then The Division Mobile, The Division novel, and finally, The Division Netflix film adaptation.
Red Storm Studios have worked on various Tom Clancy titles since the 1990s and The Division Heartland is its next project in the late author's honor. While players can already sign up to test Heartland early already, Ubisoft has yet to open registration for The Division Mobile which suggests the title is further from release. The Division 2's growing community will get its hands on new content later this year thanks to Ubisoft Massive and the support of Ubisoft Bucharest.
Included in the upcoming content for The Division 2 are a new game mode, and new ways to level agents, though Ubisoft remains tight-lipped on specific details. The Division Netflix film adaptation will star Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rawson Marshall Thurber will be its director. Ubisoft hopes to bring The Division to a wider audience with Heartland and The Division Mobile, but the company has yet to confirm which development studio is working on the latter.
Considering Ubisoft confirmed more details about the upcoming free-to-play standalone The Division Heartland than it did the mobile title, it will probably be released at a later date. The upcoming novel based on The Division is interesting given the fact that Tom Clancy is the name behind the franchise and he's a popular, bestselling, and award-winning novelist. While The Division Mobile may bring more eyes to the franchise, it also might not be appealing to existing fans of the franchise due to mobile limitations.
