As many attendees at E3 2018 might agree, Tom Clancy's The Division 2 managed to deliver the goods on the show floor with its hands-on demo, as we declared the forthcoming third-person shooter to be one of the best games at this year's expo. Of course, with this being a sequel, there could be some changes that might not be the ideal way in which fans would want to see the gameplay tweaked. Thankfully, though, such popular features like single-player won't be going anywhere, as the director Mathias Karlson has confirmed the game can be played totally solo.

According to Karlson, while Ubisoft Massive has decided to add a slew of additional co-op features to Tom Clancy's The Division 2, the studio decided not to do away with the original game's solo capabilities, as the director has stated that it is a "core principal" for the developer "that there is no right or wrong way to play The Division." In order to drive the point home that the forthcoming followup is not discouraging to single-player fans, Karlson made sure to explicitly mention that players "can play through the entire story campaign into end-game and [then the] end-game [content], alone."

Naturally, news of The Division 2 being capable of existing as a complete solo experience will excite single-player fans looking to explore all of the forthcoming title's open world Washington D.C. setting by themselves. As previously mentioned, though, the sequel will be co-op heavy, with Karlson heavily emphasizing that one could approach "the same content [in] two, three, or four player co-op, while "two full groups" for eight player co-op can take on the raid that Ubisoft Massive will be adding.

All things considered, in an era in which a lot of shooters seem to be slowly shifting toward being primarily multiplayer experiences – Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won't be featuring a traditional single-player campaign, for instance – it's good to know that The Division 2 will be catering to fans of all backgrounds. With this being the case, one can only hope that Ubisoft Massive manages to improve upon all that it did well with the original title, while including some fun, new surprises as well.

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is currently scheduled to launch on March 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
