While the Dark Pictures Anthology is a known quantity by now, Supermassive Games' next entry in this flagship horror franchise is still mostly unrevealed. The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me will star a group of five unlucky protagonists, members of a film crew that had been invited to a replica of a serial killer's "Murder Castle," and who soon learn that they're in a bit of trouble this time around. The very first of said five playable characters featured in The Dark Pictures' next chapter is an investigative journalist by the name of Kate Wilder, and Supermassive Games has just revealed that she will be played by Jessie Buckley. Buckley is an Oscar-nominated Irish singer and actress, and may well end up playing a pivotal role in The Devil in Me.RELATED: The Dark Pictures Anthology Announces House of Ashes Curator's Cut, Free Friend's PassJessie Buckley had previously played a part in Hollywood productions such as Dolittle and War and Peace, as well as TV shows such as Taboo. As she's the first revealed protagonist of The Devil in Me, her character in the game may end up being roughly equivalent to House of Ashes' Rachel played by Ashley Tisdale. Tisdale was the front-running actress for that particular chapter of The Dark Pictures, and her character was pivotal for the evolving narrative.

The Devil in Me was revealed late in 2021, with the central premise of the chapter being that players would get to take a look at the infamous "Murder Castle" of H. H. Holmes, America's very first real-world serial killer. The in-game explanation for this is that Kate Wilder and her crew of four thought they'd be taking a look at a replica of Holmes' lair, only for things to take a dark turn early on.

It may also be worth pointing out that Buckley may end up becoming a Supermassive Games mainstay before all is said and done. The Dark Pictures reuses character models every so often, which means that any actors that make an appearance once may end up doing so again in the future. Depending on Buckley's performance as Kate Wilder, anything is possible, and since there are many more Dark Pictures being made, there's bound to be an opportunity for a reappearance sooner or later.

On a tangential note, it wasn't very long ago that the titles of future Dark Pictures games got leaked, featuring no less than five future titles aside from The Devil in Me. The developers over at Supermassive Games seem to be extremely busy, especially with a side-project such as The Quarry coming up in the near future.

The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me will come out sometime in 2022.
