Several days ago, Xaviant Games openly admitted to concerns about the future of its studio following the rocky release of The Culling 2, with the company having stated that it would “have some admittedly difficult discussions” to make. Now, it seems as if the video game developer is prepared to ameliorate the situation as best as it can by following through with the decidedly tough task of completely pulling the battle royale sequel from the store shelves of Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

This much was revealed by Xaviant Games' Director of Operations, Josh Van Veld, with the studio head explaining in the video-recorded message below that in an effort to win back fans, the studio would now pivot its efforts on reviving the first game as a free-to-play title after expunging The Culling 2 from marketplaces. What's more is that Van Veld also assured those who purchased the sequel that refunds would be issued soon.

For those who may have been out of the loop lately, The Culling 2's poor launch saw barely anyone actually play the battle royale sequel. As a matter of fact, Steam Charts, which provides an ongoing analysis of Steam’s concurrent players, showed that at one point, the highest amount of people engaging with the title at the same time just two days after release was 4 players in total.

All things considered, while there's no doubt that Xaviant Games is disappointed in the public's reception of The Culling 2, at least the developer is acknowledging its faults and is attempting to rectify matters with refunds, as well as a revamped – and potentially improved – version of the original. So, for the sake of Xaviant, one can only hope that this bold move of removing the sequel entirely to refocus its attention on the first game pays off in the long run for the studio.

The Culling 2 will no longer be sold for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
