With titles like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds leading the pack among this generation's gigantic revival of Battle Royale titles, game makers have been riding the wave of the phenomenon by giving lots of preexisting and forthcoming titles their own versions of the mode. And with the Battle Royale craze in full swing, many have been wondering if Xaviant Games would be following up its 2016 release with The Culling 2. So, those hoping for a sequel will likely be glad to learn that the studio is prepared to deliver.

As seen in the announcement trailer below, The Culling 2 has officially released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One today, with Xaviant Games promising to "take Battle Royale to the next level" with its sequel. Much like the aforementioned Fortnite and PUBG, players will drop into the combat arena from above, but instead of a lobby of up to 100 different gamers, there will only be 50 total "contestants" fighting for survival in The Culling 2 matches.

For those unaware, the original The Culling entered an early access beta phase well before Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in 2016, but its official launch came in October 2017, shortly after the latter two titles were already on the market. This could be one of the main reasons as to why Xaviant Games' take on Battle Royale failed to make a splash as big as Epic Games and PUBG Corp's did.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see where The Culling 2 stands in terms of its relevancy to the Battle Royale crowd, and if it can break into the public perception as widely as Fortnite and PUBG have. Those interested in giving the sequel from Xaviant Games a go can do so for $20, and see whether or not the studio delivers on its mission to further expand upon what its predecessor had to offer.

The Culling 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
