Ubisoft’s ‘The Crew’ Gets November Release Date & New Trailer

By | 2 years ago

Racing fans looking for something new can rejoice. Ubisoft has given a release date for the upcoming open-world MMO racer The Crew. The ambitious project from developer Ivory Tower gives us the tantalizing prospect of being able to travel from one coast of the United States to the other with apparently no load times.

Gamers excited about that potential racing experience need not wait much longer. At Ubisoft’s E3 press conference, the publisher revealed that the driving MMO would be released on November 11, 2014. This announcement was joined by an enticing gameplay trailer for The Crew, showing a sped-up two-hour journey through the States, crossing paths with iconic monuments such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Mount Rushmore.

Ubisoft also look to be taking player feedback on board in the later stages of development. The Crew will open for a closed PC beta on July 23, with Ubisoft allowing a small number of the gaming community in to the development process to provide feedback on their experience. Those wanting a place on the beta can head on over to The Crew website and register their interesting in taking part.

The Crew looks set to provide a real next-gen experience. Only available on PC, Xbox One and PS4, the scope of the open-world title seems massive, with scenic locations and a real focus on the role of other players in the game world through the use of PvP crews. The interesting mix of MMO racing, open-world elements, detailed vehicle customization and RPG dynamics gives The Crew the potential to bring something entirely fresh to the genre of racing games – since it will be competing against Forza and DriveClub. With more details to be announced in the coming months, it will be interesting to see just how well these influences combine into a cohesive gaming experience.

Game Rant had the chance to sit down and have a hands-on look at The Crew at last year’s E3, and after our recent preview of Ivory Tower’s racer, it’s a title we’ve kept an eye on for its genuine immersive quality. With a truly massive game world — larger than most recent open world titles combined — and with a huge wealth and variety of locations, The Crew looks like the kind of world that you’ll just want to get lost in.

What do you make of the trailer? Do you think The Crew will be able to compete with the likes of Forza Horizon 2 and Driveclub and become king of the open-world racers? Let us know in the comments.
