It's no secret that Xbox has big plans in place for all the studios under its belt, especially after two of the industry's biggest acquisitions in history. One of those studios, The Coalition, has been hard at work on the Gears of War series since Epic Games put the series down to focus on other projects. Since Gears of War 4, The Coalition has only ever worked on games in the Gears franchise, but that could be changing if comments from Xbox Marketing General Manager Aaron Greenberg are anything to go by.

In a post that has since been deleted on both Twitter and Reddit, it seems Greenberg may have let a little too much out of the bag. In addition to recently assisting Epic Games on the Unreal Engine 5 demo The Matrix Awakens, it appears that The Coalition is working on "several unannounced projects" of which Greenberg didn't discuss specifics. While this apparently seemed okay for Greenberg to mention in the moment, it looks as if the Xbox Marketing GM spoke a little too soon.

As for what exactly these projects are, some educated guesses could of course be made. The development of Gears of War 6 or whatever the next entry in the Gears franchise ends up being is the most obvious one considering the success of Gears 5, especially thanks to Xbox Game Pass. There could also be some Gears-centric spin-off in the works as well as Gears Tactics as that was one such game that released to moderate praise. Rumors of an apparent "Marcus Fenix Collection" have also recently been doing the rounds as that would bundle remastered Gears of War content, likely either including the original trilogy or even Gears of War 1-4.

Aside from those obvious titles, there is also the possibility of a new IP from The Coalition as rumors of that have been swirling around for a while now. It is likely a trend for many of Xbox's first-party studios as the gaming giant looks to grow its IP collection to match that of Sony's and even beyond. A small possibility to make note of is that one of those games could be a licensed one, as Disney has been handing out franchises to studios such as Marvel, Star Wars, and even Indiana Jones to Xbox's own MachineGames.

Whatever these unannounced projects end up being, it is almost certain that The Coalition will put forth a quality effort worthy of Xbox's new IP-centric strategy. Another certainty is that all games from The Coalition will end up on Xbox Game Pass, giving many gamers the chance to try them out.
