Anticipation for season 3 of Amazon Prime's gritty and extremely messy superhero series The Boys has been ramping up, and thanks to some in-universe news reports, fans have plenty more material to get excited about. With the next season reported to be 3 times gorier than the last, eager viewers have been getting more excited. But what about the less visceral aspects of the show?

That's where Vought News Network comes in. The fictional conglomerate has been releasing the occasional update on YouTube, teasing what folks can expect when season 3 rolls around. Now, having released the latest in that series of glimpses into the deranged world of The Boys, they're now focusing on the members of the most famous (and most monetized) superhero team in the world known as The Seven. Characters returning and new got to enjoy the spotlight, giving viewers a look at some of the upcoming antics.

One particularly prominent upcoming character who gets the focus in VNN's top stories of the night is none other than Supersonic (Miles Gaston Villanueva), soon to be a new member of The Seven and former heartthrob problem child. The show's host, Cameron Coleman, discusses how the hero (formerly known as Drummer Boy) is looking to move on and prove his maturity, saying "it seems he's put his adolescent antics and rehab-ridden past behind him as he continues to show the world the super man he's become." No, not that Superman.

The focus then goes on to more established characters like Starlight (Erin Moriarty), The Deep (Chance Crawford), and Homelander (Antony Starr), offering a distinctly Fox News-esque pushback against any less than positive allegations involving the heroes, labeling it all as "fake news." Host Coleman discusses claims that Starlight has been feeling fatigued lately while also referencing her previous relationship with Supersonic, which is sure to become a lovely piece of drama on The Boys. Meanwhile, it seems that The Deep is still pushing against the Church of the Collective cult that he became involved with last season, while Homelander gets more of an indirect mention as fans of his are reported to be suffering heatstroke and dehydration after attempting to form a human wall to keep out "super terrorists" in a pretty on-the-nose homage.

Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) round out the segment, beginning with the former having been working with Vought to open and support various support centers for LGBTQ+ teens, though it wouldn't be surprising to hear there's more to it since Vought isn't exactly in the "doing good for the sake of doing good" business. Meanwhile, A-Train seems to be making his way back to The Seven after being forced to retire, and even teased an upcoming race against a mystery opponent. The segments were also split up by a commercial for Vought's Global Wellness Center, which will no doubt play a big part in the upcoming season.

The VNN videos really go a long way in helping deepen the cynical (but not in a Rick and Morty way) and sinister feel of the show. The parallels to talking points from less than savory real world sources feel particularly poignant, to the point where even a throwaway line calling A-Train an "amazing athlete" almost feels like a super subtle nod to certain stereotypes Black people often face to this day. But the big point is that The Boys is ready to return, and it's got plenty of that same dark humor and darker blood fans have grown to love. So grab an umbrella and get ready to wade back into that mess.
